The system segments the customer base of a large car dealer. Multi-level filters allow users to collect samples based on any data from the customer records. In this project, I have also performed the role of the requirements analyst. On the other hand, there was almost no graphic design there: the interface was built on a commercial UI framework.

Spn24 connects individual realtors with big construction companies. I have joined the project just three weeks before the first release. Working closely with stakeholders and developers I have solved several major ergonomic problems and gave the UI an elegant visual style.

The original site was once designed years ago under my direction at Usethics. Now I have updated the UI for smartphones and tablets and also updated the search interface for the desktop version.

After the first release, I had the opportunity to further improve and polish the product. I have designed the mobile version, upgraded the visual style and designed many new features and screens.

Personal brokers monitor the market all day long to suggest their customers the right time to buy or sell. For countless hours brokers stare at their huge monitors, constantly switching between a bunch of windows and browser tabs. Together with Alexey Kopylov, we researched the activities of brokers and designed an integrated broker workstation. The interface and visuals are mostly mines, the research is mainly by Alexey.

Promo site, style, logo, internal interfaces (student, teacher and administrator). Simple, fun and instructive.

The Foundation supports online media, their authors and editors. I have designed the logo which (to anyone familiar with Cyrillic script) evokes both "internetness" and "fundness".
This security service receives signals from alarm systems in stores, offices, and homes and routes them to a police unit or security service of the area. I have designed the UI for the operator workstation, the client’s personal account (website and applications) and updated the Rustelematica's logo.

Index is an analytics tool specially tailored for the online media, mainly the regional ones. It has everything that is needed for online publications and authors that universal systems, such as Google Analytics, lack. Therefore, I created the logo with an eye on literature and thick magazines.
In addition, I did hundreds of projects when I was a partner in Usethics. See a brief summary →
Note: Recently I have made Aliyah to Israel (i.e. emigrated), and for now I'm someway busy with learning Hebrew and accommodating in my new home. Still, I'm open to opportunities, especially short-termed ones.
I am one of the best Russian-speaking experts in the field of usability and interfaces¹ and I am easy to hire.
❶ Twenty years in usability and interface design, ten years art directing, the first two Russian books on the UIs and a lot of articles, membership in the Russian Ergonomics Society and ACM SIG CHI (in which I once was a president of the Russian branch), etc. — in general, lots of regalia and achievements to list. If you have an interactive product with a bad interface and/or user experience, hire me to:
— Design the interface from scratch or for the new version
— Create a visual style for the product
— Compile and write project documentation
— Conduct interviews with users and customers or do other user research
— Produce Customer Journey Map of the product or service and help implement findings.
In addition to interfaces, I do publication design, primarily in digital.
As a rule, I reside in Israel, but I can come to Russia or EU (although I still prefer to work remotely).
For 15+ years in Usethics, I have designed (personally or as the art director) hundreds of interfaces or their versions.
To describe them all would be meaningless. Many, for example, were designed for platforms that are now obsolete. For instance, I have designed the first mobile online bank for Sberbank (the biggest Russian bank) — for Symbian phones. Yet, here are some that are worth to remember:
Multiple internal systems for the biggest Russian retail company. For example, I designed a mobile application for scouts who map homes and shops to find the best locations for new stores.

Web statistics system for (mostly) government sites.

Rare today (everybody is going to browser) application for Windows desktop, intended for examination of the heart rhythms.

A concept of a new site for one of the 3 main Russian mobile operators. How to improve everything without significantly changing anything (do not turn over tens of thousands of pages of the current site)?

Self-service checkout for the major premium supermarket chain. A complex project: the logic is designed to prevent theft while the shoppers have neither previous experience nor expectations. There was no place to copy successful solutions since the rest of the self-service cash registers in the market were ugly and inconvenient.
Art director
Cashier interface for the Russian Post. The interface must be very flexible (different forms are different, even structurally) but at the same time very consistent so that users do not need to learn each and every action.

A base station to control some mysterious device... There were a lot of difficulties to overcome. For example, users often work on the street, the sun is there and weather-protected laptops have such terrible screens that nothing is really visible.

Web and mobile unified UIs for the personal area of the subscriber.

Online banking.
Art director Designer
Online store and corporate website for leading upmarket food retailer.

Multiple Interfaces for the op-center of the Russian state atomic bureau. GIS, notification system, situation dashboard. In the end, I began to glow in the dark.

The 1C platform powers hundreds of thousands of businesses being the foundation for countless systems from retail management to education. Having a long history, platform UI was heavily dependent on the multi-window interaction model. We have designed the concept that became the so-called Taxi UI from 1C v8 — modern, easy to learn and master, fluent.

Contract Builder is an expert system in which the user answers questions and the product creates an appropriate contract on the fly. It was really hard to design the UI for the process in which the answers to some questions influence other questions (some not just beyond but above).
Art director
One of the first cashier terminals for the touch screens for biggest sports retailer in Russia.
Art director Designer
Interface for the E1 Euphrates, a workflow automation system for Windows. As users normally work with several related documents at once, we designed a cool summary screen (like a browser history page) with documents listed in task-related groups and not in the stupid list view.
Art director
The interface of the electronic voting system for the Parliament of Russia. The complexities of the project were: demand for various marbles and other semi-precious stones in the UI, terrible target screens (tiny and lacking all contrast, being vandal-resistant), and the fact that this is a real-time system with related ergonomic problems. And well, the target users were someway lacking in intelligence.

Intranet of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, for the department responsible for the exchange rates. People in this department process a lot of information and are always in a hurry, so the main task was not the interface itself, but rather the visualization of trends.

New interface for the ConsultantPlus, leading Russian law and accounting practice database. A couple of years before, the main competitor, Garant, had rolled out a brand new interface with a terrifying effect — no one was ready and no one wanted to learn again. Nobody wanted to step on the same rake, so the design problem was to improve everything without changing the existing habits of users (i.e., to improve everything, changing nothing). After the release of the new version, the usual reaction of users was “It definitely became better, but dunno where exactly”.

Softphone with presence, rich chat, and conferences for Windows.

Dealine sold piles of equipment and software — by phone and fax. For sales managers, it was necessary to develop an automated workplace in which it would be possible to quickly assemble an order for a specific client. A bunch of screens, a lot of forms — in Internet Explorer 6.

Beeline, the first Russian mobile operator, planned a rebranding and urgently needed a new site. The technological landscape was rapidly changing, more and more people began to use the mobile Internet (yet it was long before iPhone). There were a lot of stakeholders (voice, services, VAS, GPRPS, corporate agents). As a result, many product decisions were often taken personally by me (the stakeholders were not in the speaking terms to each other).

Software wallet and online payment service for Windows (like they do with the crypto nowadays). The result was incomparably better than the main competitor (WebMoney). I managed to drop all the technical details and leave the main thing — the ability to pay easily. Simple interface + Yandex marketing machine = demise of WebMoney.

In addition to listed projects, I have created lots of interfaces for:
I have always been bored without side projects, usually educational.
A completely revised version of an earlier book (from 2000). In Russian. A brief overview of systems of ergonomic qualities of user interfaces and the basic rules of a successful professional activity for UI designers.
2010 · uibook2.usethics.ru
In Russian and English. The book is about the origins and the causes of design, linked to various factors of the development of society: culture, technology, ideology and politics. The first edition is free, the much improved second is for money. More on Goodreads.

Also, I have a channel on Medium with some articles on design and interfaces. ¶ A long time ago, I wrote one of the first blogs in Russian – Splashes of Consciousness (1999-2004). ¶ On the Design for Thinkers website, I published (1998-2002) my texts on design. In 2000, I invented and applied here navigation / sitemap in the basement, which is now a routine navigational solution on the web. ¶ Once (1999-2003) I was fond of digitizing odious Soviet books – the site is mothballed, but reading is still exciting.
